EQUUS PRODUCTS INTRODUCES THE NEW FORD CODE READER WITH DIGITAL DISPLAY
by Anonymous

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. – Equus Products, Inc., a leading automotive aftermarket manufacturer, introduces its INNOVA® 3145 Ford Code Reader, a hand-held diagnostic tool offering the easiest and most accurate way yet to diagnose 1981 to 1995 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles. The most distinctive feature of this new and improved Ford Code Reader model is its digital display, which shows numeric codes and testing status on one easy-to-view screen. The suggested retail price of the unit is under $40.00.

“Our Ford Code Reader has traditionally been a strong seller because it can be used to monitor various systems on more than a decade of popular Ford, Lincoln and Mercury makes and models,” said Richard Amador, Equus Product’s marketing director. “However, one of the challenges with previous versions was the need for the user to manually count Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) or LED flashes to determine fault codes stored within the vehicle’s on-board computer. The new 3145, with its digital display, eliminates the need for counting flashes and makes it easy for consumers and experienced technicians alike to get the information they need.”

In response to U.S. government mandates, manufacturers were required to include self-diagnostic programs on vehicles to identify emissions-related faults. This was accomplished with On-Board Diagnostics, which has been on most vehicles since 1981. The first generation, OBD I, was designed to monitor various systems such as fuel injection, ignition and emissions systems, and will illuminate the MIL (“Check Engine” light) if a problem is detected. By plugging in a tool, such as this code reader, and following a simple testing process, the vehicle’s computer goes into diagnostic mode to display any stored codes and allow additional tests to be performed.

The INNOVA® 3145 Ford Code Reader is designed to be beneficial to both consumers with little or no experience and experienced technicians needing in-depth information on Ford Electronic Engine Control (EEC) systems. Its features and functions include:

· Covers most OBD I Ford, Lincoln and Mercury Vehicles from 1981 to 1995.

· Safely accesses the vehicle’s on-board computer to perform EEC system self tests and read Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Each fault is assigned a specific code to identify the problem area, which is defined in the accompanying manual.

· Communicates with both Ford EEC-IV and MCU on-board computers.

· Performs all Ford EEC-IV and MCU System self tests, and code retrieval processes, including Key-On-Engine-Off, Key-On-Engine-Running, Continuous Memory, Cylinder Balance, Relay and Cylinder I.D. tests.

· Easy-to-view digital screen displays numeric codes and testing status. One-screen shows the status of the vehicle in test, the type of test being performed and any codes.

· Includes instruction manual in English, French and Spanish.

·ASE-certified technical assistance available through and 800 number and website.

In addition, a 6-foot heavy duty Ford Code Reader Extension Cable (part #3149, sold separately) is available to help enable easy one-person operation to perform a series of tests from within the vehicle.
